The awareness caravan on trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants was launched on Wednesday evening at the level of the state of Trarza, organized by the National Authority to Combat Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants of the bureau of the Office for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action and Relations with Civil Society, under the slogan “Let us not leave any child on the side of the road in the fight against human trafficking”.
In a speech on the occasion, Assistant Governor of Trarza, Mr. Mohamed Vall Ould Mohamed Mahmoud, explained that this convoy falls within the framework of commemorating the World Day against Trafficking in Persons, and constitutes an opportunity to redouble efforts in the field of raising awareness about the rights of individuals and groups and working to spread awareness of the importance of respecting and preserving human rights, as a way to create a solid culture of rights in society.
During the convoy,Sidi Mohamed Ould Lamam and Moulay Abdellah Ould Bab, respectively, Director of Human Rights at the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action and Relations with Civil Society, and the Director General of the Department of Prisons and Reintegration at the Ministry of Justice, gave presentations on the institutional framework of this phenomenon, the improvement of relevant texts, forms, procedural safeguards and risks, basic human rights principles and the stages of the introduction and criminalization of slavery in Mauritania.
The launch took place in the presence of the Governor of Rosso Province, Ahmed Ould Mohamed Abderrahmane Ould Elemine, the President of the Regional Platform of Civil Society Organizations in the wilaya of Trarza, Mr. Baba Ould Ahmed, and representatives of some organizations concerned with human rights.
