African Union President holds Talks with the Director General of the African Center for Disease Control and Prevention

On Thursday afternoon, His Excellency the President of the Republic and President of the African Union, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, held a video conference call with Dr. Jean Cassia, Director General of the General Center for Surveillance and Control of Diseases (CGCCD)
The meeting aimed at reviewing the general situation and the measures taken to confront the monkeypox epidemic that recently broke out in the center of the African continent.
Following the outbreak of this epidemic, His Excellency the President of the Republic, President of the Union, directed direct and strong support to the Center for Disease Control and Surveillance, which has so far resulted in $10.4 million in support to the Center.
His Excellency listened to the thorough explanations provided by the head of the Center, Dr. Jean Cassia
In conclusion, His Excellency thanked the Director General of the Center for the efforts made to confront the pandemic, expressing his concern over its spread
His Excellency directed the Director of the Center to intensify coordination with Member States, especially those where the epidemic has emerged, stressing his readiness to exert all efforts to respond quickly to the Center’s suggestions and recommendations, pledging at the same time to deepen the discussion on this epidemic, soon, with his brothers heads of state.
