Great Green Wall: Living Model in the Stabilization of Populations in Their Territories

The activities of the National Tree Week, which began on July 31 in the province of Wadi El Naga in the province of Trarza, were marked by the noticeable presence of the partners of the National Agency for the Great Green Wall, led by the Chinese team, who presented a new model show that is the first of its kind in Mauritania, represented in a model farm equipped with irrigation and watering devices and remotely controlled technologies.

This farm, located in the town of Bir al-Baraka in the wilaya of Trarza, is the first of its kind in terms of exploited area and activities carried out, which include income-generating, economic and environmental activities.

The launch of National Tree Week was also marked by the demonstration of a new technology by a Chinese partner to improve and process local tree seeds destined for aerial sowing.

Mr. Abderrahmane Ould Salem, Head of the Local Development Sector at the National Agency for the Great Green Wall, stated that

Three drones will be used for direct sowing, for the first time, one belonging to the Agency, another in partnership with Chinese partners, and the third in partnership with the United Nations Development Program, and these interventions are expected to give encouraging results that contribute to improving the living conditions of the local population, adapting them to climate change and reducing exodus from rural to urban areas through peripheral development.
