After reading the texts related to the holding of a public session of the Council outside its headquarters in accordance with the Constitution, and the deliberation of the Constitutional Council regarding the results of the presidential election of June 29, 2024, the President of the Constitutional Council announced the inauguration of Mr. Mohamed Cheikh El Ghazouani as President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, then invited him to take the following constitutional oath
“I swear by Almighty God that I will faithfully and fully perform my duties, observe the provisions of the Constitution and the laws of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, safeguard the interest of the Mauritanian people, and preserve the independence and sovereignty of the country, as well as the unity and territorial integrity of the homeland.
I swear by God Almighty that I will not take or support, directly or indirectly, any action that would lead to the revision of the constitutional provisions on the duration of the term of office of the President of the Republic and the conditions for its renewal contained in Articles 26 and 28 of the Constitution.”
After taking the oath of office, the President of the Constitutional Council presented the President-elect of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, with the Grand Order of the Mauritanian National Order of Merit to the tune of the national anthem

The President of the Republic won the first round of the presidential elections held on June 29 with 56.12% of the vote, with a turnout of 55.6%, according to the final results announced by the Constitutional Council after being transmitted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI).
The inauguration ceremony was characterized by the presence of a number of heads of state and government or their representatives, reflecting the great prestige enjoyed by the President of the Republic at the international level.
