UN Secretary General’s Special Representative for West Africa, Sahel Arrives in Nouakchott

On 31 July, Mr. Leonardo Santos Simao, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for West Africa and the Sahel, arrived in Nouakchott to represent the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Antonio Guterres, at the swearing-in ceremony of His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El-Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, to be held tomorrow.

The UN diplomat was welcomed at Nouakchott International Airport by Mr. Mohamed Lemine Ould Brahim, the Ambassador in charge of the Office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad, and Ms. Leila Peters Yahya, the Coordinator of UN programs in Mauritania.
