Parliament Speaker Takes Part in AIPU Conference

The work of the 36th conference of the Arab Parliamentary Union (AIPU) continues in Algiers with the active participation of the Mauritanian parliamentary delegation led by MP Mohamed Bemba Meguett, the Speaker of the National Assembly.

The second day was particularly busy with the continuation of interventions by parliamentary delegations, the presentation of reports and recommendations by the AIPU’s standing committees, and the formulation of the final conference communique.

It was also marked by the interventions of the heads of the parliamentary delegations present, focused mainly on the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and the means of supporting the Palestinian cause in various forums.

In his speech, the Speaker of the National Assembly indicated that the genocidal war that our Palestinian brothers are currently suffering in the occupied territories, particularly in the Gaza Strip, has exceeded all limits. “The massacres, famine, and forced displacement constitute a real shame for humanity and the international community,” as he put it.

Mr. Meguett affirmed that the recent incursion of Israeli forces inside the borders of Rafah, the takeover of the Palestinian side of the border with Egypt, and the continued invasion of the neighborhoods of the city as well as other cities in Gaza, the West Bank, and El Quds, represent a major challenge to international public opinion and a blatant violation of international agreements. “This dangerous escalation threatens the lives of Palestinians, particularly those crowded into Rafah, and risks widening the conflict, threatening peace, security, and stability in the region,” he insisted.

Mauritanian participation in this forum was marked by constructive contributions to the various commissions, highlighting new perspectives and potential solutions to current challenges.

Through this active participation, the Mauritanian National Assembly demonstrates its crucial role in parliamentary diplomacy, thus supporting the efforts of the Mauritanian government to defend just causes and strengthen parliamentary cooperation within the Arab world.
