European Investors Visit Nouakchott Independent Port

Nouakchott

A European delegation consisting of representatives of 16 companies active in the field of green hydrogen visited the independent port of Nouakchott (Port of Friendship), on Thursday evening.
This visit comes to get a closer look at the port’s capacity and methods of operation.
The European delegation received detailed explanations from the port operators during their tour.
Ahmed Mokhtar al-Qayed, commercial and marketing director of the port, told the Mauritanian News Agency that the visit was an opportunity to introduce the facility of the port of friendship, whether at the level of the public quay or the one of the container company at the port.
He added that the port has preferential advantages that serve this investment activity because of its role in providing conditions capable of exploiting gas and oil in the sea near the port.
During the visit, the mission expressed its satisfaction with the existence of an infrastructure that serves any new economic activity, regardless of its capabilities and the nature of its management, he said.
This delegation includes European leaders representing 16 companies operating in the green hydrogen value chain, representatives of development agencies AECID, AFD, GIZ, ITALIAN EXTERNAL TRADE AGENCY, IAEFTA, EBD and the European Commission’s Directorate-General for International Partnerships.
It should be noted that the visit of this European delegation, organized jointly by the Representation of the European Union in Mauritania and the Ministry of Petroleum, Mines and Energy, on 25 and 26 of this month, resulted in a meeting with the Minister of Petroleum, Energy and Minerals, Government Spokesman, Mr. Nani Ould Chrougha, on investment opportunities in the field of energy and infrastructure in Mauritania, and the Minister signed three Memoranda of Understanding related to green hydrogen with these European companies.
