National Preventive Mechanism Selected to Represent its Counterparts in the World at the Human Rights Council in Geneva

Within the framework of the 55th session of the Human Rights Council held in Geneva from February 26 to April 5, 2024, the Special Fund for the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture organized a reflection day on “Good practices in the prevention of torture”.
The national preventive mechanism for torture has been selected as a representative of the approximately 91 national preventive mechanisms in the world to present its experience in the prevention of torture and to show the results of cooperation with the Special Fund for the Optional Protocol.
The mechanism, represented by its chairman, Dr. El Bakay Ould Abdel Malik, was also selected as an effective partner in this high-level event, along with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights represented by the chairperson of the session, Mr. Mahaman Cisse Gouraud, Director of the Treaty Mechanisms Division of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, the United Nations Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture represented by its Vice-Chairman, Mr. Daniel Fink, the Secretary-General of the Swiss Association for the Prevention of Torture, Ms. Barbara Bernat, and the Ambassador Permanent Representative of Germany to the United Nations, Ms. Katrina Stach. Ms. Ivana Shlingova is Secretary of the Special Fund for the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture.
