President of Republic, AU Chairman, Receives Indian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs

On 21 March, in Nouakchott, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El-Ghazouani, the President of the Republic and Chairman of the African Union (AU), received Mr. Dammu Ravi, the Indian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The discussions focused on cooperation between the two countries and ways likely to strengthen it to serve the common interests of the two friendly people.

Shortly after the meeting, the Indian official made a statement to the Mauritanian news agency (AMI) indicating that he had the great honor of meeting today His Excellency the President of the Republic, who gave him and the accompanying delegation some of his precious time for an exchange on numerous bilateral and international issues.

He added that within the framework of the Mauritanian presidency of the African Union issues related to cooperation with the countries of the South and the G20 were addressed, noting that the meeting also focused on the deep political and economic relations between Mauritania and India, particularly Indian investments in the field of exploration and mining which amount to almost a billion dollars.

He noted that the Indian delegation, composed of government representatives, experts, and businessmen came to explore the investment opportunities offered by Mauritania.

The Indian Deputy Minister indicated that there are many opportunities for Indian investments in Mauritania in the areas of mining, agriculture, healthcare, and energy, expressing his wish to see the vision of fruitful cooperation with the Mauritania government materialized and strengthened, particularly in the area of economic partnerships benefiting both countries.

The Indian official considered that cooperation between his country and Africa, in general, is important, but that the cooperation it seeks to consolidate with Mauritania has a particular character.
