Mauritania Celebrates Arab Tourism Day Under the Slogan “Towards Sustainable Ecotourism”

The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Handicrafts and Tourism, Mr. Guey Amadou El Haj, supervised, on Monday at the headquarters of the National Tourist Office in Nouakchott, the commemoration of the Arab Tourism Day, organized under the slogan “Towards sustainable ecotourism”.

The commemoration of this Arab Day, which coincides with the birth of the Arab traveler Ibn Battuta on February 25 of each year, aims to employ Arab environmental diversity in raising the profitability of the tourism sector at the local and Arab levels.

In a speech on the occasion, the Secretary-General of the Ministry explained that our country, like brotherly Arab countries, celebrates the Arab Tourism Day, stressing the importance of the role played by eco-tourism facilities in achieving sustainable development of countries and the need to work to reduce the negative effects of tourism on societies.

He noted the great attention paid by His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, to the tourism sector as an important tributary to the economic and social development of the country.
