On 20 February, in Nouakchott, the Prime Minister, Mr. Mohamed Ould Bilal Messaoud, chaired the ordinary meeting of the political dialogue between Mauritania and the European Union (EU).
The meeting discussed ways to consolidate and deepen relations between Mauritania and the EU.
The meeting discussed topics of common interest, including the democratic process, the 2024 elections, and prospects for cooperation in the economic and financial fields, energy, health, human rights, good governance, migration, fisheries, and the global and regional situation.
The meeting also focused on projects financed by the EU and its Member States in our country.
Both parties expressed their satisfaction with the quality of Mauritania-EU relations, emphasizing the need to enhance the partnership between Mauritania and the EU.
The two parties further affirmed their commitment to continuing regular consultations in an atmosphere of positivity, constructive spirit, and mutual understanding.
The European side noted with satisfaction the accession of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania to the presidency of the African Union.
It is noteworthy that these meetings are held periodically under the Cotonou Agreement, which governs relations between the EU and the countries of the Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific group.
