President of Republic, Rotating President of the African Union Returns to Nouakchott from Addis Ababa

His Excellency the President of the Republic, the rotating Chairman of the African Union, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, returned Monday evening to Nouakchott from Addis Ababa, after chairing the thirty-seventh ordinary session of the General Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union, held from 17 to 19 February in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

During this session, His Excellency was unanimously chosen by the Heads of State and Government of the African Union to assume the rotating presidency of the Union for the current year 2024, and His Excellency chaired the meetings of the session and supervised its conclusion, and held meetings on the sidelines with a number of his counterparts.

The President of the Republic was received at Nouakchott International Airport (Oum El Tounsi) by Prime Minister Mohamed Ould Bilal Messaoud, Minister Counsellor of the Presidency of the Republic, a number of members of the Government, the Chief of Special Staff of the President of the Republic, the Assistant Director of the Office of the President of the Republic, the Wali of Nouakchott West, and the Vice-President of the Nouakchott Region.

His Excellency the President of the Republic was accompanied by an important delegation that included:

– Mokhtar Ould Djay, Minister in charge of the Office of the President of the Republic;

– Kemba Ba, Minister Counsellor at the Presidency of the Republic,

– Mohamed Salem Ould Merzough, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad;

– Khadija Mbarek Fall, Ambassador of Mauritania in Addis Ababa;

– Ahmed Ould Bahini, in charge of the Presidency of the Republic;

– Harouna Traoré, in charge of the Presidency of the Republic;

– Ahmed Salem Ould Mohamed Fadel, in charge of the Presidency of the Republic;

– Sid’Ahmed Ould Bbouh, Advisor to the Presidency of the Republic;

– Cheikh Ould Beddé, Advisor to the Presidency of the Republic;

– El Hassan Ould Ahmed, Director General of State Protocol.

On the side of the road between the airport and the northwestern entrance to the capital, the residents of Nouakchott extended a warm public welcome to His Excellency the President of the Republic, raising enlarged pictures of His Excellency and banners expressing their appreciation for choicing him as President of the African Union.
