Mauritania’s Chairmanship of the African Union.. A well-deserved Honor

Time and again, under the enlightened leadership of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, Mauritania has achieved unprecedented diplomatic successes that will enable it to strengthen its position on the international stage.

One of the biggest diplomatic successes is the selection of His Excellency the President of the Republic as the rotating chair of the African Union for the year 2024, by his counterparts in North Africa, and the unanimous recommendation of this choice by the Heads of State and Government of the African Union during the 37th ordinary session of the African Union Summit, which was held on Saturday at the Union’s headquarters in Addis Ababa.

In a speech after his election ceremony, His Excellency affirmed his acceptance of the duties and responsibilities of the presidency of the Union, despite the magnitude of the heavy responsibilities it entails, especially in this critical and sensitive circumstance that the African continent and the world are going through, pledging to assume this responsibility within the framework of permanent consultation and close coordination with all.
