Prime Minister in his Responses to MPs: The Societal Project of His Excellency the President of the Republic Touched the Lives of all the Prime Minister, Mohamed Ould Bilal Messoud, responded on Saturday evening to the questions and issues of the deputies of the National Assembly, which were raised during a public session chaired by Mr. Mohamed Bemba Meguet, President of the Assembly, devoted to discussing the outcome of the implementation of the government’s work for the year 2023 and its prospects for the year 2024.

The Prime Minister stressed that the community project of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh EL Ghazouani, benefited all the states of the country, pointing out that the government has established 115 large projects that included all vital areas for citizens, at a cost of 450 billion ouguiyas, and work is underway to implement other important development projects that will change the reality of citizens for the better.

In response to a question about the fight against corruption, the Prime Minister stressed that the fight against corruption is an irreversible decision, as confirmed by the reports of the Court of Accounts and the State Inspectorate, pointing out that there is an important strategy that will be implemented in this field.

He pointed out that the joint Ahmeim gas field project between our country and the sisterly Republic of Senegal witnessed several stumbles beyond the control due to the repercussions of the (Covid-19) pandemic and other factors, which together caused delays in its extraction during the specified period, explaining that its production is expected to take place during this year.

He said that all government policies focused in their entirety on serving citizens, preserving and consolidating gains, and creating ambitious development projects that meet the needs of citizens throughout the country, and take the simple citizen as a goal and a main axis.

He pointed out that the objectives of the 2024 budget are based on improving the living conditions of citizens and providing local markets with the necessary materials, in addition to other interventions that focus mainly on serving Mauritanian citizens wherever they are.

Regarding the project to supply the capital Nouakchott with potable water in the long term, the Prime Minister explained that a major project will be announced soon that will irrigate the city of Nouakchott through ocean desalination.

In the field of combating drugs, the Prime Minister stressed that the national plan aimed at combating drugs is continuing in the same field, and there are other government plans that will enhance the performance of the already activated plan to eliminate this dangerous phenomenon.

In the field of supporting the vulnerable strata of society, the Prime Minister considered that this group has received special attention, recalling the progress made in the social and economic fields, in addition to the significant percentages achieved in several important vital areas.

He pointed out that the state is still currently paying 25 billion old ouguiyas of the price of fuel to ease the burden on citizens, pointing out that there is a study on the unification of the price of electricity.

He pointed out that the percentage of health coverage witnessed a qualitative leap, reaching more than 70%, while health insurance reached 30% instead of 15% in 2019, and the success rate in the baccalaureate reached 28% instead of 16%, and the rate of access to water reached 73%, and the rate of citizens’ access to electricity service 56% instead of 43%, while cash financing reached 45 billion old ouguiyas, noting that indebtedness decreased from 67% to 41%.

With regard to freedom of expression, the Prime Minister said that Mauritania advanced by 12 points according to the Global Index of Freedom of Expression, stressing that the right to demonstrate is legitimate for all citizens in accordance with the law.

He explained that the Karama Law is an important law that will be consulted, and will be presented to all concerned parties for discussion on its contents, to be submitted to Parliament for approval.

In the field of communications, the Prime Minister stressed that the border areas have witnessed a strengthening of this service to benefit all citizens.
