On 17 January, in Nouakchott, Mr. Cheikh El Avia Ould Mohamed Khouna, the President of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture of Mauritania, received HE Ms. Cynthia Kierscht, the Ambassador of the United States of America to Mauritania.
The meeting focused on various issues of common interest, particularly ways to strengthen trade relations between the two countries and develop partnerships between their business communities in the context of Mauritania’s return to benefit from the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).
The meeting recalled the role played by the Mauritanian Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture within the framework of AGOA as it hosted a private information resource center to which Mauritanian businesses can refer to find out about the opportunities offered by the African law on economic growth and the opportunities it offers.
Ms. Kierscht called on the Chamber of Commerce to actively participate in the awareness-raising activities planned to present AGOA. She hoped the Chamber would participate in the work of the US-Africa Business Summit, scheduled for next May.
Both parties finally insisted on continuing work to develop their relations permanently.
