Mauritania, World Bank Commemorate 60 Years of Partnership

On 16 January, in Nouakchott, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development organized, in cooperation with the World Bank, a symposium on human resources to mark 60 years of partnership between Mauritania and this international financial institution.

During the symposium, detailed presentations were made on the areas of intervention of the World Bank in Mauritania, such as health, education, and other sectors, in addition to the most important projects carried out thanks to the financing and support from the Bank.

During his speech, Mr. Abdessalam Mohamed Saleh, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, indicated that the countries participating in this summit focus mainly on human resources, as they are the main engine of development.

The Minister added that the portfolio of projects with the World Bank reached the mark of 800 million dollars, noting the existence of a clear and ambitious vision in this area to develop Mauritania through human resources.

For his part, Mr. Ousmane Diagana, the Vice President of the World Bank, declared that there has been a remarkable evolution in the partnership between Mauritania and the World Bank toward more donations.

He noted the existence of new areas of partnership between the two parties, noting the existence of numerous portfolios encompassing all activities.

He stressed that challenges linked to population growth, however, remain. He also called for comprehensive reforms in this area.
