CHR: The Strategy for the Promotion of Human Rights Sets the Parameters of a Comprehensive Vision for the Field of Human Rights

The Commission for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action and Relations with Civil Society clarified that the National Strategy for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights in Mauritania, which was approved by the Cabinet during its meeting on Wednesday, was developed according to a participatory approach, which included extensive consultations with government sectors, independent national human rights institutions, and national and international civil society organizations, .

The Commission said in a statement issued on Wednesday evening, a copy of which was received by the Mauritanian News Agency, that this strategy, the first of its kind in the country, sets the parameters of a comprehensive and clear vision for the field of human rights with its complex topics, taking into account national constants.

The statement reads as follows:

“The Cabinet approved during its meeting today, Wednesday, December 27, 2023, the National Strategy for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights, prepared by the Office of the Commission for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action and Relations with Civil Society, in cooperation with the Office of the United Nations Commission for Human Rights, according to a participatory approach, which included extensive consultations with government sectors, independent national human rights institutions, and national and international civil society organizations.
The National Strategy for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights, the first of its kind in the country, sets the parameters of a comprehensive and clear vision for the field of human rights with its complex topics, taking into account national constants.

In addition to being a lever for the realization of rights, the promotion of freedoms and the consolidation of social cohesion, and a reference and guidance document for action in this field, it was a requirement of all local and international actors in this vital and important field.
The strategy is based on key documents, the most important of which are: the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania; The commitments of the “My Pledges” program to His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani; Conventions and treaties States”.
