Mauritania Welcomes Algeria’s Election As UN Security Council Non-Permanent Member

The Islamic Republic of Mauritania has welcomed the election of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

A statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad affirmed that this election would add to this UN forum a strong voice that will contribute to the defense of Arab and African strategic causes and interests. 

The statement reads as follows: 

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad learned with satisfaction of the election of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the next two years from January2024.

The Mauritanian government, while congratulating sisterly Algeria for this great diplomatic success, affirms that the election of Algeria to the UN Security Council will add to this UN forum a strong voice that will contribute to the defense of the Arab and African strategic causes and

interests and the strengthening of peace and security in the world”.
