Public Prosecutor’s Office Unvails Results of Final Forensic Report in Oumar Hammdi Diop’s Death Case

The Public Prosecutor’s Office in Western Nouakchott announced, in a statement released on 9 June, the conclusions of the final forensic report in the death case of Omar Hammadi Diop after receiving the results of laboratory analyses complementing the medical autopsy with the forensic expert’s report.

Below is the full text of the statement:

Following the information announced in previous press releases, the General Prosecutor’s Office of Western Nouakchott received this morning, Friday 09/06/2023, through diplomatic channels, the results of the laboratory analyses complementary to the autopsy of the body of the deceased Oumar Hamadi Diop, May Allah shower him with his Mercy, and the report of the forensic expert delegated for the case.

As previously announced, these analyses were conducted in a specialized Moroccan laboratory, under the supervision of a delegated forensic expert, following the judicial cooperation agreements between Mauritania and the brotherly Kingdom of Morocco.

The reception of the results took place under conditions of extreme security and protection of the judicial documents sent. The doctor appointed by the family of the deceased consulted them, and a copy of the autopsy report in its final form was given to the representatives of the family.

The report of the delegated forensic expert established, in its conclusion on the causes of Oumar Hamadi Diop’s death, that it “resulted from a cardiac arrest with acute central nervous system disease related to the presence of high doses of cocaine, in addition to recent alcohol consumption”. So the forensic pathologist completes the autopsy report.

This report confirms the conclusions drawn from the findings of the investigation into the case, as they do not cite criminal causes of the death.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office, while announcing to public opinion the conclusion of the final forensic report in the case of the death of Omar Hamadi Diop, implores Allah the Almighty to forgive him, have mercy on him, and give his family and loved ones patience and comfort.

Nouakchott, June 9, 2023.

The General Prosecutor’s Office.
