Ministry of Trade Launches training program in Tourism for 500 Young Citizens

The ceremony of launching a training in hospitality and tourism for 500 young citizens took place Thursday at the ancient convention palace in Nouakchott. The training, which has started on December 15 of last year, will continue till June 13, 2021.

This training program is part of president of the Republic’s extended priority program. This training is organized by the ministry of trade, industry, and tourism, in partnership with the National school of tourism and hospitality in Senegal.
Over six months, this group will receive theoretical and practical presentations in the field of tourism, hospitality, cooking, pastry, reception, and guide profession.

In a speech on this occasion, the Minister of Trade, Industry, and Tourism, Mme Naha Mint Mouknass, said that this formation is a precedent. She stressed that important preparations have been made to ensure the success of this program. She also mentioned that the touristic activity remains paralyzed due to the Covid-19 effects, but that did not prevent the state from pushing forward to reinforce the capacities in this sector, particularly in terms of human resources.

The minister pointed out that deficiencies in qualified human resources remain a major problem which impedes the tourism sector in Mauritania. For that reason, ‘’every serious program for the development of the tourism sector must make training its cornerstone’’, she said. In this regard, the ministry supervises this ambitious training program to address the shortage of human resources and salvage the tourism sector from the long-lasting recession.
