The headquarters of the League of Arab States in Cairo, hosted on 9 February, the ceremony marking the handover of the presidency of the 111th ordinary session of the Economic and Social Council at the ministerial level to Mauritania.
In a speech on the occasion, the Minister of Finance, Mr. Isselmou Ould Mohamed M’Bady, offered the condolences of our country to both the sisterly Syrian Arab Republic and the Republic of Turkey for the victims of the recent earthquake, emphasizing Mauritania’s full solidarity with these two countries in these difficult circumstances.
Ould Mohamed M’Bady referred to the exceptional circumstances that the whole world is going through, the resulting global food crisis, and the unprecedented rise in energy prices, in addition to the major risks resulting from climate change and serious challenges this poses for all.
He called for intensified coordination and cooperation among member states and rigorous work to take effective measures to build Arab resilience to better deal with existing crises and their various effects.
Thereafter, the chairman of the session attended the meeting of the committee responsible for monitoring and preparing the Arab economic and social development summits at the ministerial level.
During this meeting, the Mauritanian minister informed the Member States of this committee and the General Secretariat of the state of the preparations undertaken by our country to host this session in Nouakchott at the beginning of November.
