Higher Education Minister Kicks Off North African Academy Session for Internet Governance

The Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research, Information and Communication Technologies, and Government’s spokesperson, Mr. Sidi Ould Salem, kicked off, Wednesday via videoconference, the annual session of the north African Academy for Internet Governance.

The three-day session that joins the representatives of the Northern African countries, aims at reinforcing the skills and competencies of the actors in internet governance and allowing them to acquire the necessary knowledge to better measure the challenges and to actively participate in this theme at the national, regional, and international levels.

During this session, important topics will be discussed by the experts of the internet community on internet governance in Northern Africa, digital transformation, personnel data protection, Cyber security, and the Blockchain Technology.

In a speech on the occasion, the minister said the internet governance must help overcoming the challenges related to the continuity of the public services during the periods of the pandemic, data protection, and the fight against discrimination by technologies, and problems related to applications founded on artificial intelligence.

He added that such activities are strategic for Mauritania, where the information and communication technologies occupy a particular position in the President of the Republic’s electoral program. The priority that the President of the Republic attaches to this field resulted in the creation of the High Digital Council to develop this sector.
