Human Rights Commissioner Meets With OHCHR Delegation

On 16 September, in Geneva, His Excellency Mr. Cheikh Ahmedou Ould Ahmed Salem Ould Sidi, the Commissioner for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action, and Relations with Civil Society, held a working meeting with a high-level delegation of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), headed by Mr. Christian Salazar Folkmann, accompanied by Ms. Maarit Kohonen Sheriff, the Director of African Affairs at the Department of Field Operations and Technical Cooperation and some of their assistants.
The meeting discussed the excellent relations of cooperation between our country and OHCHR and ways to enhance them.
During the meeting, Ould Sidi gave a presentation on the progress made in the field of human rights in Mauritania, especially with regard to the programs jointly implemented by the government and this UN body, noting the leading role played by its office in Nouakchott to keep pace with government policies and programs in the field of promoting and protecting human rights. In turn, Mr. Christian Salazar Volkmann congratulated the Mauritanian government on the progress made in the field of human rights, praising the success of the recent visit of the UN Special Rapporteur on Contemporary Forms of Slavery to Mauritania and the results it achieved.
He praised the constructive and fruitful cooperation with the Mauritanian government, stressing that it is an example to follow.
