President of Republic Kicks off Conference on Energy and Mining Strategies

The President of the Republic, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, kicked off Tuesday at El Mourabitoune International Conference center in Nouakchott a conference on energy and mining strategies under the theme: ” Accelerating energy transition and creating green metal industry in Mauritania”.

The objective of the meeting is to present the national energy strategy based on the large-scale development of renewable energies and the production of electricity from gas.

This strategy will enable Mauritania, while respecting its international commitments, to ensure its energy security, to provide access to clean energy at low cost for all its population, to identify all possible synergies between its extractive and energy sectors, and to make its energy sector the engine of its economic growth.

Endowed with considerable natural resources, particularly in natural gas (estimated at 100 TCF) and solar and wind energy (estimated at 4200 GW), Mauritania intends to implement its new vision of energy transition to better exploit its resources and promote investments in its extractive and energy sector.
