Eight Mauritanian students in Ukraine arrived Monday in Nouakchott coming from Hungary after the evacuation of all the forty Mauritanian citizens stranded in Ukraine to Hungary and Romania.
The students were received by the Minister of Culture, Youth, Sports, Relations with Parliament, Government Spokesperson Mr. Moctar Ould Dahi, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad, and some elected officials.
In a statement to the Mauritanian News Agency, the government’s spokesperson said that 11 out of the 40 students in Ukraine had arrived before the outbreak of the war, noting that the necessary measures were taken to evacuate 28 others from the war zones across the Ukrainian-Hungarian and Ukrainian-Romanian borders.
He added that three students were unable to arrive on this trip due to COVID-19 tests and will arrive soon, while 17 students have preferred to stay, but they are out of war zones. As for the remaining student, he preferred to stay in Ukraine for personal reasons.
The students’ families expressed their gratitude to the President of the Republic, H.E. Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, for his instructions to the ministry of foreign affairs to evacuate the students.
