Minister of Culture: Knowledge, Culture are priorities in our country’s strategies

The Minister of Culture, Youth, Sports, and Relations with Parliament, government spokesperson, Mr. Mokhtar Ould Dahi, said that Mauritania is amongst the countries which owe their existence to science and culture. Hundreds of years ago, its scientific missions marked the whole world, and the word “Chinguetti” was synonymous with mastery of science and knowledge of that time.

In a speech he delivered Saturday at the General Assembly of the United Nations Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (UNESCO) in Paris, the minister added that the reputation of Chinguetti scholars then transcended the African, Arab, and Oriental region to the global space. They were the real ambassadors to the country before the establishment of the modern state.

He declared that knowledge and culture have always been at the top of the priorities in our country’s goals and strategies, just like development, freedom, and democracy.
