Mauritania Condemns Targeting of “Taiba” Power Plant, Affirms Solidarity with Saudi Arabia

Mauritania has strongly condemned and profoundly denounced the targeting of the “Taiba” power plant, which provides electricity services to the Prophet’s Mosque, considering this attack an assault on the sanctity of one of Islam’s holiest sites.

This came in a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Mauritanian Expatriates on Thursday evening, the text of which reads as follows:

“The Islamic Republic of Mauritania expresses its strong condemnation and profound denunciation of the targeting of the ‘Taiba’ power plant, which provides electricity services to the Prophet’s Mosque, due to what this represents as an assault on the sanctity of Islamic holy sites.

Mauritania affirms its solidarity with and stand alongside the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and its categorical rejection of all actions targeting its security and stability, renewing its support for all efforts aimed at safeguarding regional security and the safety of the pilgrims and visitors of the Most Merciful.

Nouakchott, October 1, 2026.”
