Mauritania is stepping up its Diplomatic Efforts to secure the Release of its Citizens Participating in the ‘Resistance Fleet’ Bound for Gaza

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad has announced that it is continuing its diplomatic contacts and efforts to obtain accurate information regarding the situation of Mauritanian citizens participating in the “Resilience Flotilla”, which is heading to the Gaza Strip on a humanitarian mission.
A statement issued today, Thursday, in Nouakchott explained that these efforts form part of the Mauritanian authorities’ ongoing commitment to protecting citizens abroad and defending their interests.
The text of the statement is as follows:
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad is following with great concern the situation of the following Mauritanian citizens:
– Sheikh Ahmed Laabid
– Ahmed Jeddou
– Mohamed Baba
– Isselmou Al-Ma’lum
who were among the participants in the ‘Global Flotilla of Steadfastness’ heading on a humanitarian mission to the Gaza Strip.
The Ministry assures the public and the families of those concerned that it is closely monitoring, through its accredited diplomatic missions and in coordination with the relevant authorities, the situation of the citizens in question, and is committed to making every effort to ensure their well-being, guarantee their safety and safeguard their rights.
The Ministry is also continuing its contacts and diplomatic efforts to obtain all necessary information regarding their current situation and to work towards securing their release as soon as possible.
The Ministry reaffirms its constant commitment to protecting Mauritanian citizens abroad and defending their interests, and to providing them with consular assistance and diplomatic protection within the framework of relevant international laws and conventions.”
