On March 2 in Toronto, Mr. Thiam Tidjani, Minister of Mines and Industry, began official meetings with Mr. Randeep Sarai, Canada’s Secretary of State for International Development.
The meeting produced an agreement to explore concrete steps toward strengthening cooperation between Mauritania and Canada in development and investment, particularly in mining and extractive industries. Both parties agreed to further review partnership opportunities and evaluate the legal and institutional framework governing investment in Mauritania.
The Minister also met with Kinross CEO J. Paul Rollinson, accompanied by the company’s Chief Technical Officer, William Dunford. They discussed the status of the company’s projects in Mauritania and prospects for their development, as well as ways to strengthen its contribution to local development and expertise transfer.
On the sidelines of the conference, the Minister also held a series of other meetings with several investors and stakeholders in the mining sector, focusing on the country’s abundant mining qualifications and the promising investment opportunities offered by the sector in the context of political stability and ongoing reforms to strengthen the business climate.
