On February 11, President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani visited the Gorgol branch of the Agency for the Development of Continental Fisheries and Fish Farming (ADPPC).
During his tour of the branch’s various sections, including aquaculture ponds, a fish feed manufacturing unit, and a laboratory, the President received an explanation of the agency’s mission to rehabilitate water bodies and transform them into environments conducive to aquaculture.
While at the center, the president launched the distribution of boats and fishing equipment to ADPPC-trained fishermen in Gorgol. The goal is to encourage fishing in Foum Gleita Lake and increase fish production in rural areas. This will create permanent employment opportunities and improve citizens’ living conditions while helping to combat food insecurity and malnutrition.
A total of 300 people, including 150 fishermen, will receive fishing equipment. Additionally, 150 women will receive fish preservation and drying equipment, as well as financial support to help them purchase fish.
The ADPPC intends to strengthen the local market supply of fish at affordable prices, compatible with citizens’ purchasing power, and create employment opportunities for local youth through this support, which is mainly intended for the inhabitants of the four municipalities surrounding Foum Gleita Lake.
