President of the Republic inaugurates a Fully Integrated Port for the Mauritanian Coast Guard in the City of Nouadhibou

His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh EL Ghazouani, today Tuesday, inaugurated in the city of Nouadhibou a fully equipped docking and support port for the Mauritanian Coast Guard, as part of the activities commemorating the 65th anniversary of National Independence Day.

At the beginning of the inauguration ceremony, His Excellency the President of the Republic watched an artistic presentation about the port, which addressed its role in enhancing maritime control infrastructure and consolidating national sovereignty, its construction cost, the stages of its construction, and the extent to which it met the conditions specified in the covenant. This was before he cut the ceremonial ribbon and unveiled the commemorative plaque, marking the start of operations at this vital facility.
His Excellency the President also toured the wings of this facility, which represents a significant addition to the maritime surveillance infrastructure.
The cost of constructing this facility reached 24 million euros, funded jointly by the Mauritanian government and a grant from the German Development Bank (KfW).
The achievement of this port comes as part of a project that includes a package of security and logistical measures, among them the construction of a docking point in ‘Moumaghar,’ the enhancement of radar stations along the coast, and the updating of the vessel monitoring system (VMS) in fishing areas.

The Minister of Fisheries and Maritime and Port Infrastructure, Mr. Mokhtar Ould Bouseif, explained that the construction of this important port, along with other significant achievements, is fully aligned with the sector’s directives derived from the vision of His Excellency the President regarding the sustainable management of marine resources, with the aim of enhancing the economic and social efficiency of the sector, developing its infrastructure, strengthening its industrial capacities, optimizing the exploitation of its job creation potential, increasing its added value, and enhancing its role as a key driver in the nation’s development.
