The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad, Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, received in his office on Wednesday a delegation from the Africa Students Union. The delegation is participating in the 12th Congress of the General Union of Mauritanian Students, being held in Nouakchott from December 23 to 25, 2025.
During the meeting, the delegation members expressed their deep gratitude and appreciation to the Mauritanian authorities for the hospitality and attention they received. They praised Mauritania’s growing diplomatic influence at both the African and international levels, commending its efforts in supporting continental student activism and fostering rapprochement among the continent’s youth.
For his part, the Minister emphasized the importance of such student events as platforms for dialogue and cultural and intellectual exchange, noting that they serve as vital opportunities to enhance Mauritania’s presence within the African sphere.
He also reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting these initiatives as part of the state’s diplomatic policy. This commitment follows the directives of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, which aim to support Mauritanian expatriate communities and promote greater openness toward the African continent.
