Human Rights Commissioner: “Mauritania Has Made Qualitative Progress in the Field of Human Rights, Strengthening its Position on the Path to Consolidating the Rule of Law and Institutions”

On 9 December, Mr. Sid’Ahmed Ould Bennane, Commissioner for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action, and Relations with Civil Society, affirmed that the human rights situation in Mauritania had seen major developments and tangible achievements in various areas this year, strengthening our country’s position among nations that are seriously striving to consolidate the rule of law and institutions.

In a speech delivered during the celebration of World Human Rights Day, he added that the Mauritanian government is continuing, for the second year, implementing the National Strategy for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights (2024-2028), as a comprehensive vision based on strengthening social justice, enshrining the concept of citizenship, promoting economic and social rights, and building a cohesive society free from exclusion and marginalization.

He stressed that Mauritania is pursuing, with determination and consistency, the path of strengthening and protecting human rights through its development programs and sectoral strategies, and in cooperation with all national and international partners, calling on all actors to continue working together in a spirit of responsibility and openness for a homeland that guarantees dignity, equity, and justice for all its children.
