Government Spokesperson: The President formed a Committee three years ago to find a Final Solution for the Human Heritage

Nouakchott

The Minister of Culture, Communication, Arts, and Relations with Parliament, the government spokesperson, Mr. El Houssein Ould Mdou, stated that His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, is keen on settling all grievances, including the issue of human heritage, noting that a committee has been working for the past three years to find a final solution to this issue, in consultation with the victims, away from any politicking.

He confirmed, in response to a question regarding recent discussions about the human heritage issue, during his commentary on the results of the Council of Ministers meeting this Wednesday evening in Nouakchott, alongside His Excellency the Minister of Estates, State Property, and Land Reform, that this step comes as part of the implementation of the President of the Republic’s electoral program.

Regarding a question about the Ministry of Finance’s circular concerning the cancellation of service providers’ contracts, His Excellency the Minister emphasized that the step aims to consolidate legal controls and adopt standards of efficiency and transparency in accessing service provision, highlighting that government sectors can benefit from service providers through consultation, provided that this is done in accordance with the applicable legal procedures (opening the door to those wishing to provide them).

He explained that this step strengthens the recruitment of 3,000 young people, which was announced by His Excellency the President of the Republic in the Independence Day speech, with the aim of providing employment for young people on one hand, and improving the performance of public institutions and enhancing their human resources on the other hand, pointing out that consultations will be held with the relevant sectors regarding the recruitment process.

He confirmed that the step of canceling service providers’ contracts is a reinforcement of the principle of transparency in obtaining employment.

In response to a question about the national dialogue, the government spokesman said that the President is keen for the upcoming dialogue to include all parties, and that no one should be excluded from it except those who choose to do so, emphasizing that the second phase of the dialogue will begin after political parties present and confirm their demands.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Real Estate, State Property, and Territorial Reform, Mr. Mamadou Mamàoudou Niang, during his commentary on the draft decree concerning the approval of the urban plan for the city of Zouérate, stated that this plan aims to modernize the city and eliminate the informal housing that has recently spread throughout it.

He added that the city of Zouérat has witnessed significant pressure reflected in the increasing population, similar to what is happening in many other cities, due to the growing gold mining activity in the region, which has led to the emergence of informal neighborhoods.

He confirmed that the new plan will adhere to modern standards, encompassing 1,590 hectares, of which 1,120 hectares will be allocated for housing. It also includes thousands of plots of land designated for building public facilities and a modern road network, alongside the construction of a new slaughterhouse that will be equipped with vehicles for meat transport.

Regarding the draft decree granting a plot of land in the Toujounine district of Nouakchott North Region to the Mauritanian Animal Products Company, His Excellency the Minister said that the company will use this plot in collaboration with the Rahma Foundation to build a slaughterhouse on an area of 15 hectares. This will enhance meat quality, as it will include a laboratory to ensure its safety.

He emphasized that this slaughterhouse represents a response to an urgent request from stakeholders in the sector and will contribute to the promotion of animal development and the improvement of meat marketing in cooperation with partners.
