Mauritania and Germany Launch Bilateral Consultations to Strengthen Development Partnership

Today, Wednesday, the bilateral consultations between the government of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and the government of the Federal Republic of Germany opened in Nouakchott.
The meeting, which is held every two years, aims to review the aspects of the partnership between the two countries, evaluate the effectiveness of its mechanisms, analyze the framework of achieved results, as well as assess the implemented projects and study ways to develop them and improve their efficiency, in addition to identifying future directions for cooperation and agreeing on new projects that align with shared priorities.

The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Development, Mr. Yakoub Ahmed Aisha, affirmed that the cooperation between the two countries, which falls under an agreement signed in 1967, today covers key areas including the sustainable management of natural resources, good governance, vocational training, renewable energy, strengthening the rule of law, and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises. He pointed out that these areas align with the commitments of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, and are consistent with the Sustainable Development Goals and the strategy for accelerated growth and shared prosperity.

For his part, His Excellency the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Mauritania, Mr. Florian Reindl, emphasized the strength of the relations between the two friendly countries and the keenness to develop and enhance them.

He pointed out that these negotiations will lead to strengthening cooperation between the two countries in many areas.
For his part, Christoph Rauh, Director of African Affairs at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), praised the distinguished partnership that has connected the two countries for more than sixty years, emphasizing the importance Germany places on enhancing relations with Mauritania both bilaterally and multilaterally.
He also highlighted the constructive role played by Mauritania in the Sahel region, reviewing the main achievements of our country at the continental level, including its recent election as the President of the African Development Bank, as well as the gains achieved during its recent presidency of the African Union.
