ElBehga
His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, conducted, this Friday afternoon, an inspection visit to the modern integrated farm for dairy production and fodder cultivation in the El Behga area, part of the Néma moughataa, where he observed firsthand the conditions of cattle breeding, as well as the cultivation and storage of fodder. This visit reflects the paramount importance that His Excellency the President of the Republic attaches to the promotion of the livestock sector in general and to the optimal utilization of the dairy basin, due to its positive impact on the living conditions of breeders and its role in accelerating regional development.
This farm was established in December 2023 with a capacity of 240 head of cattle. Currently, 108 cows are kept on the farm, awaiting the arrival of 120 more, including 70 local cows and the rest improved breeds. The farm aims to supply the Néma dairy factory with fresh milk, support and train farmers in modern cattle breeding techniques, provide improved breeds to help increase productivity, as well as contribute to meeting the demand for red meat and offer an on-site training center for farmers in the areas of forage cultivation, livestock farming, and cattle health.
It includes an animal feed factory in Nbeiket Lahwach and a laboratory for cultivating new fodder plant samples in El Behga. This modern farm produces 250 liters of milk daily as part of its effortsto support the dairy factory in Néma, to which the farm has so far supplied – according to its managers – 20,000 liters of milk.
