The Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, Mr. Ahmed Salem Ould El Arabi, accompanied by the Governor of Assaba, Mr. Ahmedou Adahi Akhtir, presided over the closing ceremony of the traditional archery tournament, organized as part of the activities accompanying the International Festival of Mauritanian Dates, The “Kro” team won the championship cup after finishing in first place, while the “Al-Murabitoun” team came in second place, and the “Al-Fawz” team came in third place. Mohamed Lemine Ould Abdel Rahman won the award for best thrower. . Thirty teams participated in this three-day course.
In his speech on the occasion, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty thanked those responsible for traditional archery who had taken the trouble to travel to participate in this course as part of the activities accompanying the International Festival of Mauritanian Dates, which aims to promote the palm sector in Mauritania and date production. He pointed out that, to this end, it has become necessary to have a central focus in the state’s strategies to promote this sector in order to achieve self-sufficiency in this commodity.
The head of the traditional archery committee explained that the traditional archery competition accompanying the date festival in the city of Kiffa, which lasted for three consecutive days, was attended by 30 clubs from different parts of the country to share the festival’s activities with the residents of the state, stimulate domestic tourism, and encourage local farmers.
He pointed out that traditional archery tournaments are considered the most important activities within the country, which the Traditional Archery Steering Committee works to direct in the service of all government activities in accordance with the directives of His Excellency the President of the Republic, who urges the need to develop domestic tourism, which is the purpose of this tournament.
He expressed his gratitude to the participating clubs and archers for taking the trouble to travel, especially after their participation in the Al-Quetna tournament last week.
