Minister of Culture participates in Algeria’s Hassaniya Capital of Culture 2025

The minister of Culture, Arts, Communication and Relations with Parliament, Spokesperson of the Government, Mr. El Houssein Ould Medou, participated Saturday at the Palace of Culture Moufdi Zakaria in Algiers, in the “Algeria, Capital of Hassaniya Culture” 2025.

At the invitation of his Algerian counterpart, Zouhair Bello, the Minister is participating in the opening ceremony of this event organized by the Algerian Ministry of Culture and Arts under the slogan: “Hassaniya unites us”.

In a speech on the occasion, the minister of Culture, Arts, Communication and Relations with Parliament, Spokesperson of the Government, emphasized the role of this event in strengthening bilateral relations and promoting cultural action, stressing that Mauritania is one of the most important incubators of Hassaniya culture in all its literary and scientific manifestations.

He praised the deep-rooted relations between the two brotherly countries, highlighting the importance of enabling cultural communication as an effective lever to materialize the ambition of the leaders of the two countries, HE President of the Republic Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani and HE President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to further push bilateral relations towards broader horizons in the cultural field.

For his part, the Algerian Minister of Culture and Arts, in his speech, praised the organization of this important event, praising the distinguished relations between Mauritania and Algeria in various fields.

The first day of the event saw the inauguration of various exhibitions related to Hassaniya culture, including book, manuscripts, cinema and traditional industries, in addition to displaying examples of common customs, traditions and rituals.

The event will also feature a diverse cultural, intellectual and artistic program, including the first international forum on “Hassaniya culture” and the organization of a symposium on cinema and Hassaniya culture entitled “Cinema in the service of Hassaniya culture, heritage documentation and identity revival”.

The event will address topics related to representations of Hassani culture in cinema and the linguistic dimension of the Hassani dialect and its use in cinema, in addition to a cultural and artistic program that includes poetry evenings and artistic evenings with musical performances on musical instruments characteristic of Hassani culture, such as the “tidinet” and “ardin”.

This important event aims to introduce the common heritage of the West African Sahara region.
