The Italian Embassy in Nouakchott hosted a reception on Wednesday evening on the occasion of the country’s National Day.
The government was represented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad, Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, Mr. Harouna Traore, Advisor to the Presidency of the Republic, and Ms. Hindou Mint Aynina, Advisor at the First Ministry.
In her speech on the occasion, the Italian Ambassador to Mauritania, H.E. Laura Ota, stressed that Italian-Mauritanian relations are witnessing a remarkable development in the economic and developmental fields, highlighting in this regard the agreements signed between the two countries, such as the RECAP program worth 3 million euros to support agriculture and livestock, the PRACEM project to support rural schools and school meals, the GTA natural gas project and the establishment of a low environmental impact hydrogen production facility.
She emphasized that all these projects reflect Italy’s commitment to supporting development in Mauritania and strengthening the partnership between the two countries.
She also emphasized her keenness to work and strive to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries, and congratulated Mauritania on winning the presidency of the African Development Bank.
The ceremony was attended by Ambassador Director-General of Bilateral Cooperation Mohamed Al-Hanchi Al-Kitab, Ambassador Director of Communication and Information at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Mohamed Al-Douh, Assistant Director of Honors at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Amado Bailaba, a number of members of the diplomatic corps in Mauritania, and national figures.
