President of Republic: The Ahmeyim Gas Field Project Will Bring Significant Advantages and Important Benefits to the Country

The President of the Republic, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, affirmed that the Ahmeyim gas field project will bring significant advantages and benefits to the country.

In a statement following his participation in the inauguration ceremony of liquefied natural gas (LNG) export operations, held on Thursday on the floating liquefaction platform of the Grand Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) gas field, His Excellency the President expressed his joy at seeing young Mauritanians (engineers, technicians, and workers) working effectively aboard this plant and in various departments.

Here is the statement from His Excellency the President of the Republic:

“Today, accompanied by my brother and friend Bassirou Diomaye Faye, I visited this plant, a Mauritanian-Senegalese natural gas liquefaction complex.

This visit allowed us to better understand the functioning of this complex and high-performing system.

The realization of this project required time, financial and human resources, and great expertise, and by entering this final phase, Mauritania and Senegal are now among the natural gas producing countries.

We are talking today about the beginning of the first phase, whose benefits are appreciable, but the second and third phases will have even more significant repercussions, including benefits and revenues for the public treasury, the supply of electricity to citizens and Mauritanian industry, not to mention another very important area, that of local content which will contribute to a real transformation that accelerates the pace of economic development.

I was very happy to see young Mauritanian engineers, technicians, and workers working aboard this plant and in various places, and especially to note that they also work very effectively, which is very reassuring.

Training, creativity, and entrepreneurship are the path that will allow us – God willing – to greatly benefit from local content and increase revenues from the exploitation of our natural resources, which will translate into the impact of these revenues on our citizens, their lives, and economic development in general.

I call on everyone to work on training and creativity to create quality local content in order to maximize employment and growth opportunities.

Thank you.”
