The President of the Republic, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, received, on Tuesday at the Presidential Palace in Nouakchott, the credentials of SEM. Tang Zhongdong, in his capacity as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.
Following the ceremony, the President of the Republic granted an audience to the Chinese diplomat in the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad, Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug.
Immediately after the audience, the Chinese ambassador made the following statement to the Mauritanian News Agency: “I have just presented my credentials to His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani. The reception also enabled me to convey to His Excellency the cordial greetings of the Chinese President, His Excellency Xi Jinping.
This year marks the sixtieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and at this historic moment, I have been appointed by the President as Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Mauritania, and I would like to emphasize that I am honored by this mission and the responsibility it entails.
Since 1965, Sino-Mauritanian relations have withstood the vicissitudes of international relations, and the two countries remain friends, with mutual respect and support.
Cooperative relations between Mauritania and China have already become a good example of friendly exchanges between developing countries, and I will do my best to work with the Mauritanian side to implement what the presidents of the two countries have agreed to promote in the service of the development of bilateral relations”.
