Minister of Foreign Affairs: Reforming African Union is Urgent Necessity and Lofty Goal that we all strive to achieve

On Monday in the AU retreat meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad, Mohamed Salem Ould Marzoug, said that the reform of the African Union (AU) is an urgent necessity and a lofty goal that we all strive to achieve.

Participating on behalf of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani, the rotating Chairperson of the African Union (AU), in the AU retreat meeting on Monday, he added that the current international situation witnessed by the worsening crises and the various challenges faced by the African continent make it imperative for us to strengthen our unity and work on the reform of our continental organization.

He said that HE the President of the Republic instructed him to convey his cordial greetings to the African leaders and his apologies for not attending this important meeting due to urgent circumstances.

He congratulated the Kenyan President on the well-deserved confidence accorded to him by the Assembly of African Heads of State and Government through Decision No. 866, naming him Champion of the African Union to succeed H.E. Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda, stressing that he has no doubt that he will wisely and ably continue the process of structural reform of the African Union in line with the common aspirations of the countries and peoples of the continent and promote the achievement of the strategic objectives set out in Agenda 2063.
