President of Republic supervises Launch of Health Component of Nouakchott Emergency Program for the Development of the City of Nouakchott

On Monday in the Tayarit district of Nouakchott North, HE President of the Republic, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazwani, , oversaw the launch of the health component of the emergency program for the city of Nouakchott.
HE the President of the Republic received a presentation on the objectives of this component, the health facilities that will be implemented within its framework, the period of completion, the technical methods followed to ensure that the project is completed according to the specified controls, and the addition it will provide to the health system in Nouakchott, both in terms of the number of facilities, their capacity and the quality of the medical services provided.
The health component of the Nouakchott Emergency Development Program, with a financial cost of 941 million ounces, represents an ambitious step towards developing the health sector and promoting justice in the distribution of services by equipping health centers with the necessary equipment and reinforcing them with qualified personnel.
The component will develop and modernize 28 basic health facilities in the city of Nouakchott, transform health points into integrated health centers, improve the quality and level of health care provided, and achieve an equitable distribution of health facilities across the nine districts of Nouakchott.
This component will enable a qualitative leap in the provision of health services to meet the needs of citizens and contribute to improving their quality of life by upgrading health facilities, expanding and equipping existing health facilities and improving their infrastructure to provide better services, and establishing new health centers equipped with the necessary medical equipment.

Speaking at the launch of the emergency program for the development of the city of Nouakchott, the Minister of Health, Abdallah Ould Weddih, explained that this component, which is part of the Nouakchott development program, which embodies the vision of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani, will contribute to improving the living conditions of citizens and enhancing basic services provided to them.
He added that this component is part of the efforts to develop the health sector, which has been a priority for the President of the Republic since 2019, which has led to achievements that enabled the doubling of health insurance by 147% by expanding it to cover 100,000 needy families, parents, students, widows, people with special needs and unclassified sector workers, and the expansion and equipping of the specialized hospital in Nouakchott. Specialties Hospital in Nouakchott, which increased its capacity from 47 to 140 beds, the construction and equipping of the new 150-bed Ceilibabi Hospital, the launch of the services of the regional blood transfusion center in Kiffa, which benefits the states of Eastern Basin, Western Basin, Lassaba and Tagant, and the construction and equipping of the 150-bed Atar Hospital Center.
He pointed out that these achievements include increasing the number of ambulances from 70 in 2019 to more than 260, expanding the availability of oxygen production centers from only one in 2019 to 19, recruiting 2921 employees in the health sector between 2019 and 2024, representing an increase in the number of workers by more than 25%, and doubling the wages of health workers.
