Mauritania and Germany sign Agreement to Support Implementation of National Strategy for Fisheries Sector

The Minister of Economy and Finance, Mr. Sid Ahmed Ould Bouh, signed on Thursday in Nouakchott, with the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Mr. Florian Rendell, a financial cooperation agreement aimed at financing the project to support the implementation of the National Strategy for the Fishing Sector.
The current funding amounts to twenty million 20,000,000 euros, equivalent to about eight hundred and sixty-six million 866,000,000 MRU, which will enable the financing of several projects in the fishing sector.
In a speech on the occasion, the Minister of Economy and Finance said that the fishing sector represents one of the most important tributaries of growth, food security and employment and is witnessing the implementation of important plans to which the State has allocated significant resources within its investment-supported budget.
He added that this funding support the sustainable management of marine resources, contribute to the protection of the national stock of marine organisms, acquire a surveillance vessel for the coast guard and support its operational capabilities, in addition to organizing a set of pilot activities to protect the sea and the beach from pollution.
The Minister pointed out that this funding will help bring closer the achievement of many of the sustainable development goals, especially the first, second, eighth and fourteenth goals related, respectively, No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Decent Work and Economic Growth, and Life below Water.
He pointed out that this agreement constitutes a solid building block added to the edifice of the fruitful partnership between the two countries.
For his part, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany emphasized that this agreement comes within the framework of strengthening cooperation relations between the two countries.
