President of the Republic orders the Allocation of 50 Billion old Ouguiyas to Finance an Urgent Program for the Development and Modernization of the City of Nouakchott

H.E. the President of the Republic, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El-Ghazouani, received, on Tuesday, at the Presidential Palace, Prime Minister Mokhtar Ould Diay and several members of the government concerned by the components of a new integrated emergency program aimed at developing and modernizing the city of Nouakchott, increasing its attractiveness and facilitating the living conditions of its inhabitants.

The President of the Republic ordered the allocation of an amount of 50 billion former ouguiyas for the financing of this integrated emergency program aimed at the development and modernization of the city of Nouakchott, involving local authorities and elected officials in the development of the final concept of the program according to a participatory approach, calling for the need to ensure a decent living environment and improve the conditions of citizens in general,  and the inhabitants of the capital Nouakchott in particular.

During this meeting, various proposals were presented by the ministers, each according to his or her specialty, which focused on the areas of basic services such as water, electricity, health, education, sanitation and hygiene, as well as road and sports infrastructure.

These proposals aim to provide services, improve their quality and ensure their sustainability.

His Excellency the President of the Republic instructed the ministers present at this meeting to immediately implement the components of this program, which should have a positive and effective impact on improving the lives of citizens and strengthening the attractiveness of the city.

The emergency program has several components:

1 – Youth empowerment and civic service, which includes the rehabilitation and construction of various sports facilities.

2 – The health component, which includes the renovation, rehabilitation and extension of existing health facilities and the construction of new health infrastructure.

3-The education component, which includes the renovation and rehabilitation of existing school infrastructure and the construction of new ones.

4) The electricity component, which consists of extending switching points, distribution networks and public lighting in order to improve access to electricity in the capital’s districts and ensure continuity of service.

5)- The drinking water component, which concerns the extension of water distribution networks in the targeted neighborhoods and the strengthening of water pumping.

6 – The access to sanitation component.

7 – Cleanliness and waste management component.

8 – Road infrastructure component, which includes the extension of the asphalt road network and the opening up of the road.

The meeting took place in the presence of MM:

– Nani Ould Chrougha, Minister in charge of the Office of the President of the Republic.

– Mrs. Houda Babah, Minister of National Education and Reform of the Education System.

– Abdallahi Ould Wedih, Minister of Health.

– Mohamed Ould Khaled, Minister of Energy and Petroleum.

– Mamoudou Mamadou Niang, Minister of Housing, Urban Planning and Regional Planning.

– Ely Ould El Veirik, Minister of Equipment and Transport.

– Mrs. Amal Mint Maouloud, Minister of Hydraulics and Sanitation.

– Yacoub Ould Salem Vall, Minister Delegate to the Minister of the Interior, in charge of the promotion of decentralization and local development.

– Sheikh Abdallahi Bodde, General Delegate for National Solidarity and the Fight against Exclusion (Taazour).
