President of the Republic Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani has instructed the local administrative authorities in the Hodh Al-Sharqi to assess the extent of the damage to the ancient mosque in the city of Walata.
The President of the Republic ordered the concerned authorities to rebuild the damaged parts with the care that is worthy of the houses of Allah, instead of an improvised intervention that is not able to withstand the elements of time that damaged the mosque in the past.
The Ministry of Interior and Decentralization said in a statement issued on Monday evening, a copy of which was received by the Mauritanian News Agency: “Following the damage caused by the recent rains to the ancient mosque of the city of Oualata, which caused the collapse of some of its foundations and rooms, and under the high instructions of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazwani, the Wali of the Hodh Al-Sharqi traveled today to the city of Walata with state technicians, to assess the damage to this religious and historical landmark and determine the most effective ways to repair what has collapsed.
