The President of the Republic, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, received Thursday morning, the credentials of His Excellency Mr. Bernardo Luis De Caravalho Futscher, as ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary a of the Republic of Portugal to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.
After the presentation of credentials, the President of the republic held a meeting with the Portuguese diplomat in the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad, Mr. Ismael Ould Cheikh Ahmed.
After the meeting, the Portuguese ambassador made the following statement to the Mauritanian News Agency:
“It was my honor to present my credentials to His Excellency the President of the Republic.
Portugal and Mauritania are two friendly countries, brought together by many international organizations; they are members of the Dialogue 5+5 and the coalition for the Sahel.
The two countries have strong economic relations, manifested in the presence of many Portuguese companies in Mauritania.
I am pleased with this opportunity that will allow me to contribute to the development of the strong friendly ties between our two countries.

– Mohamed Lamine Ould Abey Ould Cheikh El Hadrami, Officer in Charge of Special Duties at the Presidency of the Republic
– El Hanchi Ould El Kettab, Director General of bilateral cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad
Oumar Mohamed Babou, Director of the Arab World and Acting Director of Europe Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad.
