Gas Exporting Countries Forum Summit in Algiers: High-Level Specialized Working Group Meeting Begins
The meeting of the high-level specialized working group with the participation of a delegation from our country kicked off on Thursday morning at the International Conference Center in Algeria, in order to develop final amendments to the decisions and commitments that will be included in the “Algiers Declaration”, to be submitted to the ministerial meeting to be held tomorrow, Friday, in preparation for presenting them to the summit of heads of state and government of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum on Saturday.
The first day of this summit, which runs until the second of March, will witness the presentation of a report on the World Gas Outlook 2050, in the presence of gas industry professionals, academics and representatives of many international media who came to cover this summit, which has a major role in a world characterized by climate change and environmental impacts with a negative climate impact.
The day will culminate in the inauguration of the headquarters of the Gas Research Institute of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum based in Algiers, an innovation and research body dedicated to promoting the understanding and application of gas-related technologies, which will play an important role in the development, deployment and transformation of technologies that will improve the environmental efficiency and performance of the natural gas industry by providing training programs for member countries’ experts, sharing best practices and knowledge by developing partnerships with member countries’ research centers and universities, as well as supporting the vision of The Forum’s mission is as a global advocate of natural gas and a platform for cooperation and dialogue.
On the second day of the summit, there will be the extraordinary ministerial meeting of the Forum with the participation of delegations of member states, and in the presence of a delegation from our country headed by His Excellency the Minister of Petroleum, Mines and Energy, Government Spokesman, Mr. Nani Ould Achrouka.
The ministers will discuss the final version of the declaration and related decisions, as well as the second edition of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum awards ceremony in honor of the personalities and bodies that have made exceptional contributions to the gas sector.
During the second day, the forum will also sign protocols of agreement with the African Energy Commission (AFRIC) of the African Union, the Economic Research Institute for the ASEAN region and East Asian countries.
The third and final day will see the holding of the summit of heads of state and government to endorse the “Algiers Declaration” for this summit, which will conclude with a press conference.
The Algiers Summit is of global importance, especially with the participation of leaders, delegates and partners from different countries of the world, during which a strategic dialogue and joint cooperation will be launched to pave the way for a secure and sustainable energy future, by creating a meeting place where ideas and innovations to develop the energy sector meet.
Organizers interviewed by the Mauritanian News Agency delegate to the summit confirm that the seventh edition of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum in Algiers builds on the rich legacy of its predecessors, each of which has contributed significantly to the development of the global gas industry.
They add that the summit is an indication of Algeria’s important role in the global energy arena, in a context characterized by the fundamental importance of gas in international energy security.
It should be noted that the member countries of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum are (Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, United Arab Emirates, and Venezuela), while the member countries are observers (Mauritania, Angola, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Malaysia, Mozambique, and Peru).
