UNHCR and the Korea International Cooperation Agency Sign an Agreement to Support Refugees in Mauritania

Ms. Elisabeth Esther, Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Mauritania, and Ms. Hyun Cho, Director of the Korea International Cooperation Agency office in Morocco, signed today, Wednesday in Nouakchott, an agreement under which the Korea Cooperation Agency will provide $4 million to UNHCR to assist refugees and  host communities in the Hodh El Charqi, Mauritania.

This funding will be allocated to support the interventions of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in the period between 2024 and 2028 for the benefit of 15,300 refugees in Hodh al-Sharqi State through the “Tawasim” project, which aims to empower refugees and host populations and enhance their capacities for resilience, environmental protection, and local development.
