The Mauritanian Business Forum at Expo 2023 Doha began on 20 February in the Qatari capital.
The forum aims to present investment opportunities in Mauritania in various fields, including energy, agriculture, technology, and trade, highlighting the incentives and legal guarantees provided by the government to foreign investors.
The Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Momma Ould Beibata, who supervised the opening of the forum, hoped that it would contribute to strengthening cooperation relations between Mauritania and the State of Qatar, opening new horizons in the field of investment between the two brotherly countries, in the service of their common interests.
He added that Mauritania today represents a vast and abundant market, thanks to its strategic location, at the western gateway to the Arab world and a vital gateway to sub-Saharan Africa, at the gates of Europe, overlooking America from the east coast of the Atlantic Ocean.
In addition, it enjoys regional and international stability and credibility, which allows it to play leading roles at the continental and global levels.
The Minister of Agriculture stressed that most investment zones in Mauritania are still open to those who wish to extract and exploit the precious minerals in the subsoil, maritime resources, pastures of all kinds, and the fruits and harvests of its fertile lands. He also mentioned the environmental specificity of the country, which is characterized by an abundance of sunshine, the existence of 700 km long coastlines between the economic capital Nouadhibou in the north and the town of N’Diago, on the border of Senegal in the south, having renewable resources which offer interesting investment opportunities.
The Minister reviewed Mauritania’s promising economic prospects in the field of oil and gas exploitation and the launch of megaprojects, such as the green hydrogen project, which is expected to be one of the five largest projects in the world and will be powered by 60 megawatts of wind and solar energy.
He indicated, in this regard, that other projects will be launched, in parallel with the aforementioned project to improve port and road infrastructure, residential and commercial facilities, and financial services open to investors.
”Mauritania has become a popular tourist destination to which thousands of tourists come in search of an outlet and legendary hospitality in an unrivaled desert space around oases scattered between mountains, ancient historic cities alongside beautiful nature reserves along the Atlantic coast, on the river bank, in the caves of eastern Mauritania, and in the forests of the center and south.
Mauritania has a free zone in Nouadhibou offering a tax and customs system encouraging investment, especially following the adoption of a new law on investment currently being improved by a Higher Council of Investment”, as he put it.
Ould Beibata stressed that the government of Prime Minister, Mr. Mohamed Bilal Messaoud, following the directives of His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, will continue its efforts to improve the business climate, which will attract domestic and foreign private investment.
“We hope that you will be part of our future successes thanks to your welcome investments… Mauritania is your home, you are welcome there.”, as he concluded
